Big Wolf Band - Be Free (2019) / Big Wolf Records
The Big Wolf Band has had an excellent reputation in the British and European blues scene for several years and delivers some very grandiose blues / rock songs on the new long player.
Together with the excellent singer Zoe Green they bring an energetic live show that rocks a lot! And that's exactly how it comes to the blues fan's ear on the album.
Our tip: listen out loud!
With Zoe Green, who is considered one of the best singers of the English blues scene with her musical talent and her powerful voice and the blues rock guitarist Jonathan Earp, an extraordinary show comes on the stage of the festivals and clubs.
The merger of this unique musical character is a natural extension of each other's talents.
Musically, Be Free is a natural blend of blues and soul, while the acclaimed debut album A Rebel's Story contained the gentle guitar licks and voice of Jonathan Earp, the band partnered with Zoe Green, one of the more soulful and cheeky singers on the blues rock stage has made a name for itself with The Zoe Green Band and their self-titled debut album from 2018.
The singer is also a natural live performer who played a number of shows on the "Ladies Of The Blues" tour and did many headline slots with her former Zoe Green band.
Every track (all thirteen songs were written by Jon Earp) offers everything from soul blues and the ear-opening opener "Walk in My Shoes" to the six and a half minute track "Just Can't Find You" with which the Album ends.
Between these solid but very different styles of blues there are plenty of highlights such as the vocal and lively and musically fast-paced "Nobody's Home" as well as the slow soul blues "Loving Like a Fool" and "Heavy Load" with Jon Earp in a vocal duo with Zoe Green. Particularly worth mentioning is "Never That Easy" with a beautiful versatile instrumentation and a catchy melody.
The Big Wolf Sound covers a broad history of the blues touch base with Freddie King, Peter Green and even Alvin Lee, but the voice of Zoe Green gives the sound real individuality. All in all, Be Free is an album that shouldn't be missing in any well-stocked archive.

In our new genre Crossover, a musical talent from Germany comes along. The singer, songwriter and guitarist Michael Oertel, skillfully combines folk, blues, soul and rock influences in his music with his band without sounding old-fashioned. Oertel's goal is not only to create and master his own style, but also to keep his art and his soul open, to be versatile and to grow as an artist not only on a musical, but also on a human level.
With the album 'A Little Faith' released on June 21, 2019, Michael Oertel goes back to the musical origins of blues, folk and rock'n'roll. An organic, powerful and very varied work, in the style of the 60s / 70s, with rocking, faster numbers, as well as calm ballads, the whole thing embedded in a reduced robe.

KID COLLING at the Schmölzer Blues-Tage 2019 - Live in the tent on Friday, September 6th, 2019
As an opener, a quintet from Luxembourg will meet in the live tent at the castle on Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. When you think of Luxembourg, you usually think of the forests of the Ardennes, medieval fortress buildings and, last but not least, the Bock Casemates (tunnel network from the 18th century) and the easily digestible Moselle wine. Yes, there was something ...
Oh yes, the blues in the finest form. Yes, you read that correctly. He is young, he is dynamic and he is ready for Europe ... or rather, they are ready for Germany. Kid Colling (LU) wants to take all the audience of the Friday evening on his little "bluesikalische" journey around the 12-stroke. With ingenuity, passion and an infectious, powerful, yet unobtrusive energy, Kid Colling and his trio embody an unusually fresh mix of modern blues rock, garnished with jazzy harmonies and spiced with a groovy rocky rhythm. The quartet celebrates the roots through the warmth and generosity of a sound that takes the listener back and forth into the world of captivating melodies around blues rock.

Flo Bauer Blues Project
03.05.2019 - 20 clock
The French are getting ready to conquer the European blues scene: guitarist Charlie Fabert has just been featured with his band in the latest "blues news", Fred Chapellier is causing a stir with his Peter Green tribute album and vocally powerful vocalist Veronique Gayet has just set her fulminant Album "Wildcat" on the gran cru label by Timo Gross before, to name just a few. And right in the middle of it is a young, just 21-year-old guitarist and singer from Alsace. He has just released his debut album with the two blues warriors Benoit Seyller on bass and the drummer Pierrot Bauer. His name: Flo Bauer.
The guitarist, singer and namesake of the band, is one of the greatest French talents in blues. He has been making music since he was 6 years old. Flo Bauer made a name for himself in 2014 with "The Voice", where he impressed audiences and juries alike with an acoustic interpretation of the Stones classic "Angie". In 2016 Bauer received the “Révélations” award (newcomer) at the “Blues Sur Seine Festival” in Paris. In 2018 he was awarded at PROMO BLUES NIGHT at the Blues Festival in Basel.
Subsequently, he played numerous concerts in France, Switzerland and also in Germany. For his appearance in Lahnstein, the critic Michael Schaust wrote about Bauer: "... when he covers, pieces like" Superstition "by Stevie Wonder are idiosyncratically interpreted in the best sense. Own works such as the balladesque "Maybe you know it" or the folky "You're the one" as well as the filigree energetic story of how Flo turned to the twelve-stroke at the age of 15 ('The Blues'): Bauer can compose ... ..Cleanly played, but with the necessary dirty coloring Bauer knows how to celebrate the twelve-stroke ... .. “.
With his EP "Virtual Generation" and his current album "Flo Bauer Blues Project and guest", the young talent demonstrates his musical ability as a guitarist and singer. The band is an interaction of two generations. On the one hand the young Alsatian blues giant Flo Bauer (g, v) and on the other two virtuoso old masters not only of the French blues universe, Pierrot Bauer (dr) and Ben Seyller (b), both already half a century in the music scene there. Apparently, this chemistry leads to success between youthful, talented impetuosity and mature experience. With their repertoire, consisting of Flo Bauer's own compositions and well-known, newly arranged pieces, they show that blues-spanning music can be and is for everyone.
With his skills and charisma, he was able to convince some of the best musicians on the French blues scene, such as Fred Chapellier, Charlie Fabert or Yves-Michel Kochmann, to be a guest musician on his CD "Flo Bauer Blues Project".
On 03. 05. 2019 he will inspire his audience in the "Red House" of the Pfingstbergschule Mannheim at the 19th Pfingstberg Blues.

A Little Lady With a Big Voice
"Knock Knock" announces the young british shouter Sister Suzie on the opener of her album debut and that makes you sit up and take notice, because the lady who has optically model qualities sounds like one of the great female blues icons of the early years. With their Right Band Matt Jackson (git), Jason Smith (dr),
Eddie Edwarts (bs) as well as Al Nicholls and Nick Lunt (sax) are rocking Suzie into a fun, original Rock'n'Boogie, and you feel transported back to the time of the smoky clubs where boys with pomade in hair their girls dancing in their watching swirling petticoats.
Suzie or Susan, as she is known, is a young, exciting and highly skilled blues / rockabilly singer, originally from Northumberland, England, was not like other children and early showed interest in classical rhythm blues and rock'n 'roll. Even as a young teenager, she decided that she wanted to become a blues singer.
A British music journalist wrote:
"A little lady with a big voice. You can't help but smile and tap your feet to her explosive mixture of rhythm and blues ”
Their excellent debut brings a balanced mix of cover versions and originals like the 'Knock Knock' from Carol Frans or the 1960 Elmore James title 'Cant Hold Out' with an Ace-Sax part and a nice guitar solo by Matt Jackson. One of the highlights of the long player is Irma Thomas' 'Ruler Of My Heart' where Suzie presents one of her best vocal performances.
But also the original songs of the CD are worth listening to like the ballads 'Your' and the Cowrite by Clarke
and Jackson's 'Working Girl'.
The title track 'Is not No Lady' is a fiery boogie piano number and with 'Big Mistake' comes a great Blues Bopper number
That's why it's just fun. Her great, voluminous, sonorous and powerful voice convinces all along the line. Ain't No Lady is an album that is just fun and makes you dance. This is what it sounds like when the "Rocking Lady and her boys show their wonderful live show.
Blues, Rhythm 'n' Blues and Boogie Woogie "par excellence"
