The McNaMarr Project

Talk about dancing, grooving, moving and wagging your tail: There's nothing better I've heard in a long time than The McNaMarr Project.

As a kid I had records by Otis Redding & Carla Thomas, Sam & Dave, Tina Turner, Staples singers.... I haven't heard a blues duet like that since. Thank you Johnny and Andrea for bringing that spirit back and doing your own thing with it.

Eric Martin Mr. Big Lead Singer

"McNaMarr Project" The Sound Of Soulful Blues "2018 Blues Performer Of The Year (Solo/Duo)Multi-award winning blues artists John McNamara and Andrea Marr have both carved a niche for themselves on the international blues scene with many years and awards under their belts. They began their collaboration in May 2018 after their respective albums "Rolling With It" and "Natural" enjoyed chart success in both Australia and the U.S., with John's album reaching #1 on the U.S. RMR Contemporary Blues Singles chart and Andrea's album reaching #1 on the U.S. Soul Airplay chart as well as #1 on the R&B Airplay chart and #1 on the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay chart.

Together they received 7 nominations at the 2018 Australian Blues Music Awards, with John winning Song Of The Year. A set of 10 original songs that absolutely capture the soul and spirit of Memphis soul...it is truly timeless."

When Andrea Marr & John McNamara were encouraged to record as a duo, they discovered a match made in soul heaven. They fuse their individual range and phrasing like vocal bookends cooking up spicy soul...You may be inspired to holla and groan or to turn and witness, either way it's a joyous ride, right down to the last track."

(Chris Lambie Rhythms Magazine Australia)

...the result on their debut "Holla & Moan" is stunning. This album would fit right into the heyday of Stax, reminiscent of Otis Redding and Carla Thomas or perhaps Ike and Tina Turner. They belong in that august company because they did it right, recording at Royal Studios with Boo Mitchell on the console and veterans from Memphis.

'Two of Australia's finest soul and blues singers, Andrea Marr & John McNamara, began their collaboration in 2018, winning the Blues Performer Of the year Award that year and representing Australia at the IBC in Memphis TN, home of Stax Records, where in the 1960s Otis Redding and Carla Thomas recorded a string of timeless duo hits.... I can't remember the last time I heard a female/male act as exciting as this one.'

(Billy Pinnell Stack Magazine Australia)

‘It’s a crackin’ album, not one bad song on it’ -

'From the opening notes of the title track to the final notes of 'Blues Brought Me Here,' this recording sounds almost like a lost Stax recording session.'

we sing, we move our heads, we can't stay static..the music flows like the soundtrack to a good trip. the listener is caught in a universe that is at the same time nostalgic and comforting - a real tour de force!'

Ten original tunes that absolutely capture the sound and spirit of Memphis soul. Marr has been compared to Betty Lavette and Tina Turner, and with good reason. She delivers vocals with power and soul and has a captivating stage presence. McNamara's vocals are reminiscent of greats like Sam & Dave or even Otis Redding.

Needless to say, this is a powerful vocal pairing. This is quality work that would have been as well received in the late 1950s as it is today. It is truly timeless.'
