Janice Harrington - The Lady of Jazz - Blues and Gospel

The North American, multi-talented artist Janice Harrington is known as a jazz, blues and gospel singer, producer and actress. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, she now lives in Germany.


Her career began in 1969 with tours through Southeast Asia, where she worked for the US military in various U.S.O. Shows occurred during the Vietnam War. She had great success from 1975 to 1977 as a star guest at the Las Vegas Flamingo Hotel. During this time, she also starred in the plays Norms Is That You and Two Gentlemen From Verona and appeared as a guest on the American TV series Days Of Your Lives.


Janice Harrington was on stage with artists such as Billy Daniels, Lloyd Bridges, Frank Sinatra Jr., Sammy Davis Jr. and Lionel Hampton.


Lionel Hampton once said of Janice Harrington that she is a one-woman show.


In 1995 she produced the First North German Gospel and Spiritual Festival, for which she won as patron Gerhard Schröder, at that time still Prime Minister in Lower Saxony. Known as an ambassador for music and culture, Janice Harrington teaches her projects Authentic American Music and Learn English with music to children around the world.

Janice Harrington has written two musicals: Streets of Harlem, performed in Oslo and What My Eyes Have Lakes, produced in Hamburg, and in collaboration with Karin Krog the musical "Girl Talk" also produced in Oslo.

In 2006, she founded an association that organizes school workshops in schools for students of all ages.

In July 2007 she was guest of the American Embassy in Bulgaria and Romania with various workshops and concerts and opened the renowned Bansko Jazz Festival in Bulgaria.

2008 began with Janice Harrington with an invitation from the American State Department to Israel in the context of the Black History Month to teach various music classes and give concerts. She has also conducted workshops on behalf of the American Embassy in Thailand.



In 2009 she traveled again to Bulgaria, Latvia and Israel at the invitation of the United States Department in the context of the Black History Month. This time, she came to Israel at the invitation of the American Consulate in Jerusalem and led workshops and concerts in Palestine with her team.

From 2010 to 2013, Janice Harrington has focused on working with schoolchildren and handicapped people, giving workshops and concerts with Authentic American Music workshops across Germany.

She is also responsible for the production of the impressive gospel show The Roots of Gospel and Spirituals. However, the absolute highlight in 2013 was the organization of the 1st International Jazz, Blues and Gospel Festival in Las Vegas.

From 2014 to 2017, Ms. Harrington and her musical partner Dylan Vaughn were once again invited to Bulgaria for the Black History Month, Janice was there in 2015 at the Varna Summer International International Music Festival with Kalki Koceto and Stratsimir Pavlov, and 2016 as a special guest with the The Ruse Big Band.

2017: Ms. Harrington (aged 75) has a passion for introducing the next generation of children to the roots of blues, jazz and gospel with their school workshops (Sing Out).

2018 At the ripe old age of 75, Ms. Harrington returns with her updated version of "What My Eyes Have Lakes", a show she wrote in Hamburg in 1989 to tell her life story in music, with rave reviews. See the link for video clips. My life story in music.

Janice Harrington is described by the international press as warmhearted. She has the gift and the charisma of captivating the audience and maintaining the suspense throughout the concert.
